Clearing a property after a death, a move or a tenancy usually produces a lot of waste. A business that takes that waste away for a fee is carrying other people's waste, so it would normally need an upper tier waste carrier registration in England (see gov.uk).
Before you agree a price
- Check the firm's registration and that the name matches your quote.
- Ask what will be reused, sold, recycled and disposed of.
- Get a written quote and an invoice that shows the company name.
Executors and landlords
If you are arranging a clearance for someone else's property, you are still the person handing over the waste, so the same checks apply. Keep the paperwork with the estate or tenancy records.
